François & Caroline
Cognac, France
In the summer of 2025, I returned to France to photograph the wedding of two dear friends I met ten years ago — Francois and Caroline. What once began as a friendship quietly came full circle, as I stood beside them not only as a guest, but as the one entrusted to document their most meaningful day.
They chose to celebrate their wedding at Abbaye de Fontdouce, a historic abbey founded in the 12th century near Cognac. The ancient stone arches and weathered walls carry centuries of stories, standing gracefully amidst the French countryside. A small river runs gently through the estate, reflecting the blue summer sky and the warm limestone façades. Willow trees sway softly in the breeze, their branches drifting like brushstrokes against the light. The atmosphere felt timeless, serene, poetic, and deeply rooted in history ,a setting that perfectly held the depth of their love.
On the morning of the wedding, Francois and Caroline began the day with a traditional Catholic ceremony in the church. Sunlight filtered through stained glass windows, casting delicate colors across the wooden pews and stone floors. After the vows were exchanged, family and friends showered them with white rose petals , a symbol of purity and blessing. The petals floated through the air like a gentle snowfall, settling softly on their shoulders and in the hearts of everyone who stood witness to their union.
In that moment, I was not only pressing the shutter , I was holding time still. Preserving the light, the love, and a friendship that had quietly traveled across a decade, now blooming into something eternal.
